FAO/WHO seeking data and experts on control of STEC in Meat and Dairy products

The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Meetings on Microbial Risk Assessment (JEMRA) provides scientific advice on microbial food safety issues. We have recently released a call for experts and data to help inform new work on the control of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) in meats and dairy products. 2 children - one on the island of Funen and another in the Copenhagen area - died due to a rare complication related to EHEC, a strain of the _E. coli_ bacteria. Both children died of kidney failure, but the 2 tragic cases are not connected. A 3rd child also contracted kidney failure but survived, DPSA said.
