Are low doses of radiation in the environment PROTECTING you from cancer?

Are low doses of radiation in the environment PROTECTING you from cancer?
Abstract
High doses of radiation are known to cause cancer. However, there is increasing evidence that low doses of radiation can prevent or delay cancer. There is also a large amount of evidence demonstrating that low doses of radiation can protect from damage induced by high doses of radiation. We have been studying the biological effects of extremely low doses of radiation, doses which are orders of magnitude lower than most other studies in the literature, and which are more closely relevant to population and occupational exposure. Data from our studies will be presented and discussed in light of the importance of understanding biological effects of low dose radiation and also the difficulties associated with conventional assays for low dose radiation studies.
Understanding the short and long-term biological effects of low dose radiation has important social and economic implications for understanding which doses of radiation are actually harmful, and also for the potential of harnessing low dose radiation induced protection for cancer prevention.
