REVOCATION OF THE EURL-CEFAO MANDATE

According to COMMISSION IMPLEMENTING REGULATION (EU) 2018/1587 of 22 October 2018 the designation of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Rome, Italy, as a European Reference Laboratory for the residues listed in Annex I, Group B(3)(c) to Council Directive 96/23/EC is revoked as of 1 January 2019.
Consequently, the contents of the website and relevant restricted areas (documentation and proficiency testing) will be updated and available online for a limited period of time.

 The European Union Reference Laboratory for Chemical Elements in Food of Animal Origin (EURL-CEFAO) is hosted by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Department of Food Safety and Veterinary Public Health. The EURL-CEFAO is responsible for the residues listed in the Annex I, Group B3(c) in the Council Directive 96/23/EC of 29 April 1996, that is Chemical Elements in Food of Animal Origin.

The EURL-CEFAO, former called CRL-ISS, is one of the European Union Reference Laboratories (EURLs). The tasks of EURLs are listed in the Art. 32 of Regulation 882/2004. In particular, the EURL-CEFAO focuses its mission on:
- the preparation of ad-hoc reference materials for Proficiency Testing for its relevant NRLs, and organizing a yearly workshop to discuss the results

About our Proficiency Tests

 The EURL supports NRLs by organizing interlaboratory comparisons for the determination of chemical elements in food of animal origin (defined in CR 854/2004) pursuing selected objectives. In fact, since 2006 the EURL-CEFAO has been working to improve the analytical performance of NRLs proposing exercises dealing with matrices fortified at concentration of interest. Therefore chemical elements and matrices used are both those for which a ML is fixed in CR (EC) 1881/2006 and those generally analyzed in National Residues Control Plans of EU MS.
Each year PTs are planned taking into account both the outcome of the previous ones and the needs of NRLs. In order to meet these specific characteristics, materials are prepared ad hoc. This preparation starts with the purchase of commercial...
